The 2022 Annual Lord Mayor's Prayer Breakfast was held on the Friday morning the 3 June, it was the 14th consecutive Annual Lord Mayor's Prayer Breakfast.
The morning brought together like-minded people and organisations to celebrate shared values that unite us and help us all to feel a commonality of purpose and place. The commitment of so many to gather and pray for the people of Newcastle reflected the willing ability to journey together irrespective of background!

The theme of the morning was 'HOPE'!
Scriptures and prayers of hope were brought. Guest speaker Janine Epere from Destiny Haven shared her story of hope, overcoming addiction. Guests recorded their hopes on 'HOPE' cards, Janine Epere led a corporate prayer for the hopes of all.
Stuart Brown and a combined churches team of artists led the gathering in worship.
Rick Prosser the master of ceremonies for the morning prayed a prayer of declaration and blessing over Newcastle and Bishop Peter Stuart closed with the benediction. The Lord Mayor Cr, Nuatali Nelmes brought a greeting to all those gathered and announced the beneficiary of the breakfast.

The beneficiary of the breakfast chosen and announced by the Lord Mayor was Jenny's Place. A support service for women who have experienced domestic violence.

The Lord Mayor Cr, Nuatali Nelmes was joined on the morning by her daughters Ruby-Lou and Stella and the Deputy Lord Mayor Cr, Declan Clausen, City of Newcastle Councillors, Elizabeth Adamczyk, Deahnna Richardson and Peta Winney-Baartz, Katrina Wark and CEO Jeremy Bath.

Prayers of Hope
My name is Sam and I am praying with you in Telugu. My prayer is for a STRONG UNITED SOCIETY.
In 1 Corinthians 13: 5-8a,
Telugu: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”
Heavenly Father, we pray for the people of Newcastle. We ask for forgiveness for the times we have not shown love. We ask for your grace and healing to be poured out between friends, families, businesses, schools, churches and authorities. May the people of Newcastle be aware of what unites us rather than what divides us. Regardless of political persuasion, ideologies and cultural backgrounds, may we show grace and kindness to all people. Lord we humbly come before you and pray that Newcastle will be a strong united society. We pray in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

In Philippians 4:5-9 we read,
“Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”
Heavenly Father, we pray for peace and security in our world, in this nation, in the City of Newcastle and in each person’s mind here today. We pray for peace in the midst of fear and anxiety. That the troubles around us would not rock our peace within and that we would be people who bring strength into situations. We pray for those who are experiencing uncertainty and pain that Your peace that passes all understanding floods into their minds bringing relief and wholeness. We pray in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
My name is Arthur Copeman and my prayer is for CITY LEADERS.
In Provers 8:15,17 (AMP) we read that,
“By me kings reign and rulers decide and decree justice… and those who seek me early and diligently will find me.”
In Timothy 2:2 we read that we are to pray for “all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
Heavenly Father, we thank you for all those in positions of authority and acknowledge their work and sacrifice. We ask that you bless them and their families. May you generously give to each of them wise and discerning hearts to govern the people in our city. Father, we pray for Lord Mayor, Nuatali Nelmes, Deputy Lord Mayor Declan Clausen, their councillors, staff and other city leaders that they may solve problems, distinguish between right and wrong, and bring order, stability, and prosperity to Newcastle. We pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

We come together this day and acknowledge Jesus as the hope of the world. Together we speak hope over this city
We speak hope over our young people.
We speak hope over our children.
We speak hope over every life in Jesus name.
May hope arise.
May hope arise over despair, anxiety and depression.
May hope arise over hopelessness.
May hope flood into every dark place.
We pray for courageous leadership to arise across every sector of our community.
We pray for creative solutions to the stubborn issues that suppress human flourishing.
We pray for visions and dreams to surface and materialise through your people.
We pray for a release of resources and provision over this city that everyone and everything prospers
We pray that this city would be an example and hope to the cities of the world.
We pray for healing and forgiveness to flow like a river.
We pray for a deep sense of peace to rest over us.
Our hope is that this city reflect heaven on earth.

BENEDICTION - BISHOP PETER STUART, ANGLICAN CHURCH NEWCASTLE
Bishop Peter Stuart made the following remarks before praying the Benediction at the Lord Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast.
"As the Anglican Bishop of Newcastle I lead and represent the Church that came with and is deeply connected with colonisation. We know that our story is joined with the bad and good of the change to this region. We know that our good and know with deep sadness that our bad impacts the region. So in humility and with deep lament I come to pray a blessing. There are times when the Church can fall into the trap of believing that God is only working within the Church but that is not what God has promised. God works in creation and in people, all of whom are his beloved. We know that by watching and listing to and learning from the community we also witness God at work and are built up in our hope."
LORD MAYOR'S STUDENT LEADERSHIP FORUM
The Student Leadership Forum was established in 2013 in conjunction with the breakfast. Students have the opportunity to assist in hosting the breakfast, this is followed by their own leadership forum.
